Bible verses for new Christians plus free wall art printables by The Faith Notebook

Reading, studying and living according to the Bible is important for Christians. Not only is it God’s word (2 Timothy 3:16) and tells us about Jesus (John 5:39), it also tells us where we came from, where we’re going, who we are and how we should live.

Admittedly, it’s no easy task to read the Bible, especially if you’re a new believer or just starting to read the Bible. It’s undeniably long and at times, kind of confusing. But don’t let that put you off. We need God’s word in our lives to learn from, to equip ourselves, and to sustain us (Matthew 4:4; 2 Timothy 3:16–17).

To get the ball rolling, here are a few key Bible verses that are central to Christianity that will hopefully point you in the right direction.

God is eternal

Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the whole world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God. — Psalm 90:2 (NIV)

Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen. — 1 Timothy 1:17 (NIV)

God is perfect

Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect. — Matthew 5:48 (NIV)

As for God, His way is perfect: The Lord’s word is flawless; He shields all who take refuge in Him. — Psalm 18:30 (NIV)

God loves us

For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. — John 3:16 (NIV)

Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed His love among us: He sent His one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and His love is made complete in us. — 1 John 4:7–12 (NIV)

God created the universe

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. — Genesis 1:1 (NIV)

God created us

So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God He created them; male and female He created them. — Genesis 1:27 (NIV)

Our purpose in life

Everyone who is called by My name, And whom I have created for My glory, Whom I have formed, even whom I have made. — Isaiah 43:7 (NIV)

Salvation through faith in Jesus Christ

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. — Romans 3:23–24 (NIV)

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith — and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God — Ephesians 2:8 (NIV)

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. — Romans 6:23 (NIV)

If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. — Romans 10:9 (NIV)

Trust God in all things

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight. — Proverbs 3:5–6 (NIV)

Pray to God about all things

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. — Philippians 4:6–7 (NIV)

Then He said to them all: ‘Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.’ — John 9:23 (NIV)

Be ready to defend your faith

But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect — 1 Peter 3:15 (NIV)

Jesus is our strength

I can do all this through Him who gives me strength. — Philippians 4:13 (NIV)

Jesus will return

As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. — Matthew 24:37–39 (NIV)

You also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect Him. — Luke 12:40 (NIV)

Look, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to each person according to what they have done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End. — Revelation 22:12–13 (NIV)
