As Christians, we’re called to spread the Word of God (Mark 16:15).
Evangelising may come easy to some, but for the rest of us mere mortals, the thought of witnessing to people face-to-face may have us running in the other direction. Whether it’s a lack of confidence or we just don’t feel ‘ready’ to take on such a mammoth task, some of us may regretfully stay silent and let opportunities pass us by everyday.
Thankfully, in this day and age, there are more ways than one to spread the Word of God. We’re each blessed with our own strengths and weaknesses. Maybe one day we’ll be called to do face-to-face evangelism, but, if it’s not really your ‘thing’ just yet or if you feel compelled to head in another direction, why not try out one of these other ways to spread the Gospel?
Pray. If you don’t really know what to do or how to start, prayer is always a good first option. Pray for God to guide you, pray for His will to be done, and eventually there will come a time and place for you. The Bible says ‘trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him and He will make your paths straight’ — Proverbs 3:5–6 (NIV). If you don’t quite know where you’re headed, don’t worry — God knows exactly what you should be doing and He will guide you there if you trust in Him.
Use your talents to spread God’s word to the world. Whether you’re a writer, musician, artist, builder — create something special that glorifies God and share it with others. Your work might just lead to some unexpected opportunities to spread the gospel.
Use social media to spread the Word. Quote a Bible verse. Share a video or article. Or just tell the world what you’re doing — whether it’s going to Church or a special Church event, reading the Bible, studying theology, listening to Christian music or watching a (good!) Christian movie. Do this on a regular basis and people will start to notice. Who knows, you may also make a few new friends who come across your posts.
Invite others to special Church events. Inviting non-Christians to regular church services may seem like you’re coming on a little strong (especially if they’re not particularly interested in Christianity at the moment), but inviting them to special events might be a little less daunting for both of you. Whether it’s a Easter or Christmas event, or a ladies’ night, this is a more casual and enjoyable way to introduce them to church life and other friendly people at your congregation.
Love others as God loves you. Show God’s love through your everyday actions, loving not only those who love you, but also your enemies (Matthew 5:44; Luke 6:27-31). Be a living testimony of God’s love and others will be sure to notice.
Hopefully this has given you some ideas and confidence in going out and spreading God’s word in any way you can. For those already out there, what are some of your own unique ways you like to spread the Word?
