Have a God-centred new year

Have a God-centred new year by The Faith Notebook

Happy new year!

I hope 2015 was filled with lots of love, joy and blessings, but I hope 2016 will be filled with even more!

Some of you may be using the new year as a much needed new start and others may be following on from a great 2015. Wherever you are in life, I also pray that you have a God-centred year this year and every year.

Whether you’re writing down your resolutions and goals or just keeping a few ideas back of your mind, here are three easy ways to make 2016 and every year a God-centred one.

Love others

We love because He first loved us. — 1 John 4:19 (NIV)

God is love and God loves us so much that He sent His son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross for us. Let us be an example of God’s love by loving others. The second most important commandment is to love our neighbour as much as we love ourselves (Mark 12:31), so let’s show love, kindness, respect and patience to those all around us in everything we do.

Read the Bible

Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’ — Matthew 4:4 (NIV)

The Bible is God’s word. As a Christian, it’s important to know what it says. Why? So we learn about God and Jesus, about heaven and hell, about where we came from, how to live our lives, how we should treat others, just to name a few. We should spend every day reading the Bible, whether we have to make time to read the Bible in our busy schedules or plan to read the entire Bible.

Evangelise

He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.” — Mark 16:15

This might be a scary one for some people but it’s important to spread the word of God, especially in today’s troubled times. Some people may not believe in Christianity, others may not know much about it, and others may just be too busy living to care. It’s our jobs to make sure the gospel reaches as many people as possible. Whether it’s a passing mention, a photo, or a deep and meaning conversation, there are many easy ways to spread the word of God these days. Or you can support people who are already out there evangelising like church communities, pastors, or missionaries.

Whatever your plans for the year are, I pray you’re able to work towards them and get through any trials through the strength of Christ.

What are some of the ways you are planning to make God the centre of your year this year?
